You arrive at the golf course with anticipation and expectation.
Itโs a beautiful day for golf. Its hard to contain your excitement. Youโve been waiting this for the whole week. Daydreaming at work about getting on the course standing over the ball and swinging with delight.
You feel the club strike the ball with that familiar cracking sound.
All of a sudden the pain comes crashing in. Throbbing into your hands and fingers, your back or knees- wherever; all those thoughts of excitement, all that anticipation evaporates in an instant.
Arthritis in your body has once again stolen away the joy of the swing, the connectโฆthe fizz of the ball as it careens down the fairway toward the hole.
Throbbing, aching, pain pulses in your body. You know you can hit the ball better than that, but this @#%*&# pain aches so bad. You feel so weak.
Itโs hard to grip the club with confidence. You want to be powerful, to feel athletic, but you feel like an insipid old man.
Memories waft through your mind. You remember what it was like to swing the club, hitting the ball with power and confidence; to control that power, directing it however you saw fit.
Now it just hurts. Itโs an effort to get through 18 holes. The pain saps you of enery.
The new oversize grips, soft compression balls and graphite shafts that you have changed to, have helped a bit, or at least they did for a while.
Even the copper infused glove you bought ( as well wearing one on your trail hand) helped at the start. But now the pain is there just as bad as ever.
The anti-inflammatories the doctor has prescribed make a notable difference. You know you couldnโt play at all without them; at least not with any enjoyment. But now they have started to wear off and have begun cause you some stomach problems.
The reflux that was intermittent is now there all the time. You know you are going to have to stop taking them before they cause permanent damage. So what do you do?….

That was me.
Only just past middle age. Golf which is one of the few escapes I have that gave me unadulterated pleasure, was now a point of depression. I wondered how long it would be till I couldnโt play at all.
I watched golfers a lot older than me still playing and enjoying it, but many of them looked like a stiff plank trying to swing a club.
They winced in pain, frequently wringing hands and fingers, rubbing and stretching elbows, shoulders, hips and backs. Was I destined to be like that tooโฆ
There had to be a better way!
I was frustrated. Finally, the pain of my problem outweighed the pain of doing something about it. So, I researched. I hunted. I looked under every stone. I read till my eyes were blood shot.
There is a Solution!!
The good news is I found a solution, not just a cover up, to the pain you feel in your fingers when you swing your beloved golf clubs. Itโs simple too.
But simple doesnโt mean easy.
There are things you need to do. There are things you need to eat. Things you need not to eat. There are supplements or herbs you can take that make a profound difference.
One thing I did learn was each person is unique and needs a customised program to address their arthritis. That’s something I will address in detail in an upcoming course.
